DAMON MAY
After years spent cutting his chops in just about every band in just about every genre you would associate with rock music, Damon May has finally settled into his own skin. His new solo project is the sound of an experienced musician finding a sound unique to him, and therefore all of pop music. Don’t call it narcissism, call it self-discovery... but no matter what you call it, it sounds good.
Damon has left his vocal prints all over his hometown of Detroit and the punk/ska Mecca that is Chicago, in legendary bands like the Eclectics (Jump Up/Victory Records) and the Exceptions.
Damon relocated to Columbus OH where he now records under “Dead Set Ready” & his own name with a host of musicians, allowing him the freedom to fine tune his own artistic vision: A simple and effective brand of pop rock that provides the perfect backdrop for Damon’s trademark vocal bombast.
On stage, Damon plays with the skill and precision of a veteran (which he most certainly is), but also with the flair and intensity of a rookie just out the gate. While sharing the stage with traditional rock combos, Damon has built a reputation on rocking more asses with less. His one-man acoustic show proves that all that drums, bass and electric guitars amount to nada without engaging personality and musical passion, which Mr. May wields like an axe.
Since striking off in his own direction, Mr. May has shared the stage with Mae, Waking Ashland, The Explosion, Jamison Parker, Throw Rag, An Angle, This day and Age, The Loved Ones, The Receiving End of Sirens (TREOS), The Rocket Summer, Gatsby’s American Dream, The Hush Sound, The Fold, John Nolan(Taking Back Sunday), John Ralston(Dashboard Confessional), PersonL and Chuck Ragan to name a few.
